2020 brought the world many challenges that were never faced in the digital age.
The one constant that remained was the war on talent. Despite an influx of people being available to work, as is clearly seen in the 300% to 1000% increase in job applications for specific roles, the fact remains that there is still a huge skills gap and lack of experienced and qualified talent.
A few of the key differences noted between pre-covid and post-covid recruitment and hiring has been the mindset shift nearly every business had to adopt from office-based to remote workforces.
This came with its own challenges, how to keep teams and staff engaged, and continue collaboration at the same time. Enter technology.
Many businesses not only had to change their disruption and digital future expectations and implement these seemingly overnight, they also had to find solutions to communicate and retain the engagement of their employees. Some of our clients admitted that, despite practicing and embracing Agile as a methodology in their teams, the shift to remotely based staff initially challenged them in terms of how to approach this when teams could no longer meet up in person to discuss how they were faring against previous goalposts, and how to collaborate on the way forward. Fortunately, technology could address this either by way of Zoom, Teams, or Skype type team catch-ups and they quickly adapted to a new way of working.
Some businesses faced other challenges, where the staff was not set up to work remotely, and suddenly had to be. Once done, a few said they still faced unforeseen challenges in that some staff was not set up for any digital communication whatsoever, for instance, one HR person who had to interview remotely, had no internet at home. In fact, she didn’t even own a TV set, and she never wanted to be set up for the internet, but now had to out of necessity.
Furthermore, in many countries, the availability and access to offshore skillsets were no longer an option. Many countries either prohibited exit from, or entry to their borders, and talent may have found themselves either locked in by their own country’s policies or locked out from other countries by theirs.
Small businesses had no ATS or CRM systems and many of them still don’t, yet a real need exists to be able to not only attract the best talent and do so without delay, but also to understand the needs of the current and future workforce, and how to effectively compete with more prepared and established businesses.
Before C-19, there was a clear shift in how employers engaged with and attracted talent. It has since become of paramount importance for employers to understand this shift, and to implement strategies to reflect their knowledge and appreciation thereof.
At Teamphoria, we understand this all too well. We have processes and systems in place to assist employers in achieving that. We start by looking at your employment brand, how it is perceived, and what is known about it. From there we can assist you in addressing any shortfalls.

Since covid, many companies told us they struggle to stay on top of the applications they receive.
